The decision to conduct military strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities without congressional approval raises serious constitutional concerns. Engaging in offensive military actions without proper authorization from Congress violates the foundational principles of checks and balances enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. While the president has authority as Commander-in-Chief, the power to declare war resides with Congress. These unilateral strikes risk escalating tensions and drawing the nation into a broader conflict without the consent of the elected representatives of the American people. I urge a thorough review of these actions and for steps to be taken to uphold the constitutional requirements for use of military force. Circumventing the legislative branch on matters of war sets a dangerous precedent that undermines democratic norms and civilian control over the military. Regardless of perceived justification, the constitution must be upheld.
