The Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to let the Bureau of Prisons strip hormone therapy from transgender prisoners who have been prescribed it by their own prison doctors. You need to speak out against this now, before the Court acts on the emergency application in Trump v. Kingdom. This isn't a policy debate — it's a medical one. The American Medical Association and the Endocrine Society both recognize gender-affirming hormone therapy as medically necessary. Dr. Carl Streed, a transgender health researcher, told The Advocate that withdrawing hormones "is a dangerous thing to do," warning of risks to mood, cognition, cardiovascular health, and bone density. For prisoners who have had surgery and can no longer produce hormones naturally, forced tapering isn't a policy preference — it's a health crisis. We don't cut off blood pressure medication or insulin for prisoners. This is no different. Judge Royce Lamberth blocked this policy twice because the bureau couldn't identify a single safety problem caused by providing this care — care it had been providing for years. The administration is not acting on evidence. It's acting on an executive order. That's exactly the kind of arbitrary government action the courts exist to stop, and elected officials should be saying so loudly.
