A Neoconfederate Supreme Court Demands Term Limits

To: Sen. Peters, Rep. Huizenga, Sen. Slotkin

From: A verified voter in Kalamazoo, MI

May 7

I need you to introduce and co-sponsor legislation establishing term limits for Supreme Court justices. The current Court has abandoned precedent and stripped rights from millions of Americans. Justices appointed through partisan manipulation now serve for decades with zero accountability. This isn't how democracy works. Lifetime appointments made sense when justices served an average of 15 years, but now they're serving 25 to 30 years or more, giving a handful of presidents outsized control over constitutional law for generations. Term limits would restore balance and legitimacy. An 18-year term with staggered appointments means every president gets two nominations per term, ending the lottery system where some presidents appoint none and others reshape the Court for half a century. It would reduce the stakes of confirmation battles and ensure the Court reflects the constitutional views of living Americans, not those from decades past. The Court's current composition and recent decisions make this reform urgent. If term limits legislation doesn't exist in your chamber, introduce it. If it does, co-sponsor it immediately.
