I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent to urge immediate action to safeguard our democracy. The risks of creeping authoritarianism are not theoretical—they are already evident in policies and power plays that threaten the checks and balances upon which our nation relies. Rising political polarization, aggressive executive overreach, and attempts to undermine our independent institutions all signal an alarming trend that could erode the democratic freedoms we hold dear.
History has shown that even in our darkest moments, organized, nonviolent resistance and robust institutional defense can prevent irreversible damage. However, this window of opportunity is narrowing. I respectfully implore you to work across the aisle to pass comprehensive reforms that:
• Reinforce the independence of our judiciary, federal agencies, and civil service.
• Strengthen voting rights and protect free, fair, and transparent elections.
• Curtail executive overreach and restore accountability to our government.
• Support measures that foster a resilient, engaged citizenry committed to democratic principles.
Time is of the essence. Our future depends on proactive measures to prevent the consolidation of power in ways that could fundamentally change our democratic system.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
