Block the SAVE Act and Spread Awareness About Voter ID Assistance

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A verified voter in Kalamazoo, MI

April 13

I need you to do everything in your power to prevent the SAVE Act from passing and to spread awareness about assistance available for acquiring the required documents. Senator Lindsey Graham has vowed to push portions of this bill through reconciliation to bypass the filibuster. This legislation will create barriers that prevent eligible voters, particularly women who changed their names at marriage, from exercising their constitutional right to vote. The documentation requirements will disproportionately impact women who must now produce passports, birth certificates, and marriage certificates to prove their identity. A passport alone costs $65 for a card or $165 for a book. Many voters cannot afford these costs or easily obtain decades-old marriage certificates. States like Florida, Mississippi, Utah, and South Dakota have already implemented similar requirements, and we're seeing eligible citizens turned away from polls because their documents don't perfectly match. Use your platform to inform constituents about programs like VoteRiders that help citizens obtain required documentation at no cost. Publicly oppose the SAVE Act in every forum available to you. Work with colleagues to ensure every eligible voter can cast their ballot without unnecessary financial or bureaucratic obstacles.
