Protect Our Waters Now I am writing to urge immediate action to safeguard our country’s wetlands and streams from damaging rollbacks to Clean Water Act protections. The Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed redefinition of waters of the United States leaves an estimated 80 percent of mapped wetlands vulnerable to pollution, dredging, and destruction. Stripping federal safeguards from temporary Western streams and wetlands that lack a continuous visible surface connection defies basic hydrology. Pollution in these vital ecosystems flows downstream, jeopardizing drinking water sources, increasing flood risks for local communities, and destroying critical habitat for fish and migratory waterfowl. We cannot allow clean water to be sacrificed for corporate gain and commercial development. Clear rules that lead to dirtier water are a loss for outdoor enthusiasts, families, and future generations. Please stand up against these reckless rollbacks and fight to preserve robust protections for all American waters.
