An Open Letter

All of America is shocked and appalled as our law abiding immigrant neighbors are snatched up by ICE and HSI and cruelly treated. It seems to be so much easier to grab people at their immigration appointments, workplaces and schools rather than finding ACTUAL criminals! No, that would be hard work and this administration is not about hard work or accuracy or accountability. Just make a cruel show with some brown people. I am sickened by this. This is not in any way acceptable! The people ICE is using to bolster their numbers and to provide theater for the racists among us are beloved in our communities! The people of San Diego didn’t like their local restaurant being invaded. The high school community in Massachusetts didn’t like one of their star students being arrested. University students kidnapped off the streets—who can unsee the young woman being taken away by masked agents in unmarked vehicles? Trump voters saying they thought he was going after criminals not people who have been living here peacefully and productively for years. Not their mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, neighbors. This must stop! We aren’t a nation of sadists! Stop this now! Bring back the people who have been rendered and sequestered in foreign prisons. They need to be identified and any real criminals can be tried and deported—not rendered to a foreign prison. This has all gone too far. We need a rational immigration policy with amnesty for those who have been here for years and have followed the law. What is happening now is dangerous, life-destroying chaos. Not in my name and not with my tax dollars.
