I have been a university professor in this country for 24 years. I have taught countless incredibly bright international students who were here legally on F-1 visas. In the past, the best and the brightest of these students were able to join the American workforce and contribute to the advancement of our society. This was a bonus to us, as instead of going back to apply what they learned here, they became assets of hard work ethic and creativity for American businesses.
The administration’s decision to cause businesses who sponsor H1-B visas to the token of $100,000 per job candidate per year is simply ill informed and it will have dire consequences for our economy. We will: (1) lose outstanding minds to other countries and (2) very likely push our companies to outsource jobs to foreign countries. Either combination of (1) or (2) will represent a loss to the American economy.
I urge you to take a stand against this foolish decision by the current administration. It is immoral to put this onus on our business and it is unthinkable to have us surrender outstanding professionals to the global economy instead of keeping them here to propel our economy.
