Our nation was founded on the principle that a well-educated public is essential to preserving liberty. Thomas Jefferson made this clear: education’s purpose is civic, not just vocational. Yet under Linda McMahon’s direction, the Department of Education is being sliced apart. Entire programs are being handed over to the Department of Labor, guided by a narrow view that schools exist only to serve industry. This betrays Jefferson’s vision — and our democratic values. I expect you to defend the Department of Education. Reject this corporate-style dismantling, and protect our children’s right to an education that empowers them as full citizens.
