IRS Tax Immunity for Trump and Family

To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley, Rep. Burlison

May 19

I am writing to express my outrage over the IRS settlement that permanently bars the federal government from auditing or pursuing any tax claims against Donald Trump, his family, and his businesses. This is not a normal legal settlement. Trump sued the government he controls, had his own Justice Department settle the case, and walked away with lifetime IRS protection for himself and his entire family. The American people are not exempt from IRS audits. No other citizen gets this deal. The settlement language, signed by acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, states that the government is "FOREVER BARRED and PRECLUDED" from prosecuting or pursuing claims or examinations of Trump's past tax returns, extending to his family members, trusts, companies, and affiliates. This expanded settlement was not even included in the Justice Department's initial agreement released Monday. It was quietly added later. The Treasury Department's chief legal officer has already resigned in the wake of this deal. That speaks volumes. I expect you to speak out against this. No American should be permanently shielded from tax law. No president should be able to use the Justice Department as a personal legal team. This is self-dealing with a government seal, and your silence makes you complicit. Where do you stand? I demand an answer from you.
