Support Impeachment of Trump and Removal of Miller and Vance

To: Sen. Durbin, Sen. Duckworth, Rep. Quigley

From: A constituent in Chicago, IL

February 1

I am writing to urge you to support impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump for his flagrant abuse of presidential power to enrich himself through lawsuits against federal agencies under his direct control. Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS and Treasury Department on Thursday in Miami federal court, seeking damages for the 2020 leak of his tax returns by former IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn. While Littlejohn was sentenced to five years in prison in 2024 for his crimes, Trump's lawsuit creates an unprecedented conflict of interest where the president controls the agencies he is suing and would approve any settlement payment to himself. When asked about his earlier $230 million Justice Department request, Trump admitted it was "awfully strange to make a decision where I'm paying myself." This acknowledgment exposes the corrupt nature of these actions. This is part of a disturbing pattern. Since returning to office, Trump has filed lawsuits seeking tens of billions of dollars, including $10 billion against the BBC, $10 billion against The Wall Street Journal, $5 billion against JPMorgan Chase, and $15 billion against The New York Times. Using the presidency to extract taxpayer money through litigation against agencies he controls constitutes clear self-dealing and abuse of power that demands immediate congressional action. I also urge you to support the removal of senior advisor Stephen Miller, whose policies have consistently undermined American values and constitutional principles. Furthermore, Vice President Vance needs to focus on the serious responsibilities of his office instead of whatever bizarre personal activities he engages in during his private time. The American people deserve leadership focused on governing, not distracted by inappropriate conduct. Our democracy cannot function when the president uses federal agencies as personal ATMs while surrounding himself with advisors who prioritize ideology over the public good. I expect you to take immediate action to support impeachment proceedings and demand accountability from every member of this administration.
