Urgent concern re: environmental policies

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. Crow, Sen. Bennet, Pres. Trump

From: A verified voter in Centennial, CO

April 9, 2025

I am writing as a deeply concerned citizen and voter to express my strong opposition to any proposed cuts in funding for public lands, national parks, and climate change initiatives. These areas are not discretionary expenses, but rather critical investments in our nation's future, and I find any attempt to diminish them to be profoundly misguided. Our public lands and national parks represent a vital part of our national heritage. They provide invaluable recreational opportunities, support local economies, and safeguard irreplaceable natural resources. Reducing funding for these areas would lead to: * Degradation of Natural Resources: Underfunded parks and lands suffer from deferred maintenance, increased pollution, and compromised wildlife habitats. * Loss of Economic Benefits: National parks and public lands are significant drivers of tourism and local economies. Diminishing their resources will result in job losses and decreased revenue. * Reduced Public Access: Limited funding translates to fewer rangers, closed facilities, and restricted access, denying citizens the opportunity to enjoy these national treasures. Furthermore, the decision to curtail climate change initiatives is a dangerous and irresponsible path. The consequences of inaction are already evident in the form of increased extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and ecological disruption. These are not abstract threats; they are real and present dangers that jeopardize our communities and our future. * Increased Vulnerability: Reducing climate change initiatives leaves our communities more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, increasing costs associated with disaster relief and infrastructure damage. * Missed Economic Opportunities: Investing in renewable energy and sustainable technologies creates jobs and fosters innovation. Retracting these initiatives stifles economic growth and puts us at a disadvantage in the global market. * Environmental Degradation: Ignoring climate change accelerates the destruction of ecosystems and the loss of biodiversity, with far-reaching consequences for our planet. I want to emphasize that these issues are not partisan. They are matters of sound fiscal policy, environmental stewardship, and intergenerational responsibility. I urge you to reconsider any proposals that would jeopardize the health of our public lands, national parks, and our planet. As a voter, I will be closely monitoring your actions on these matters. I will not support any official who demonstrates a disregard for the protection of our public lands, the preservation of our national parks, or the urgent need to address climate change.
