Stop Elon Musk

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters, Rep. Huizenga

From: A constituent in Lawton, MI

February 2, 2025

Elon Musk's attempts to seize control of the Treasury's payment systems are deeply concerning and pose severe risks to critical government operations and the financial security of millions of Americans. The Treasury payment system is responsible for distributing trillions of dollars in Social Security benefits, Medicare payments, and funding for essential social programs that families rely on. Allowing an unelected billionaire like Musk to potentially freeze or cut off these funding streams would be disastrous. There are legitimate fears that Musk could abuse this power to target his corporate rivals by placing them on the "Do Not Pay" blacklist, or potentially even tamper with Social Security and Medicare disbursements to force draconian budget cuts. His stated goal of slashing $1-2 trillion from the federal budget is simply not feasible without gutting these vital safety net programs that millions depend on. Musk is seeking this control not for any noble public interest, but rather to facilitate tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations like his own at the expense of working families. Opinion polling shows the American people overwhelmingly oppose allowing an unaccountable billionaire like Musk to wield this kind of power over their lives and economic security. I urge you to take immediate action to investigate these disturbing developments and protect the integrity of the Treasury's payment systems from Outside private influence or exploitation for personal gain. Upholding the rule of law must be the top priority.
