You’ve Betrayed the People You Swore to Serve

To: Rep. Miller, Sen. Durbin, Sen. Duckworth

From: A verified voter in Donnellson, IL

November 12

I’m writing to you out of anger, exhaustion, and heartbreak. The American people are suffering—hungry, sick, overworked, and unheard—while our so-called leaders seem focused only on wealth, power, and political games. You’ve failed to represent us. You’ve allowed corporate interests and campaign donors to dictate policy while families fall deeper into poverty. You’ve allowed greed to shape laws while citizens go without healthcare, affordable housing, or even food. You’ve turned the very idea of public service into a stage for ego and profit. Our government should have never reopened without real protections and reforms for the people it serves. Both parties share the blame. Republicans and Democrats alike have shown us that party loyalty comes before public duty. You’ve forgotten the words of Abraham Lincoln—a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Right now, it feels like we are governed not by people, but by profiteers. Every vote you take that benefits the rich at the expense of the poor erodes what’s left of our democracy. You’ve built a system where power hoards compassion and greed starves hope. We are asking you—no, demanding you—to remember who you serve. Stop treating the working class as expendable. Stop selling out the American dream. Start acting like the leaders you promised to be.
