An Open Letter

To: Sen. King, Sen. Collins

From: A verified voter in South Portland, ME

February 14

I am adamantly opposed to the SAVE act and ask that you vote against it! More than half the nation doesn’t have a passport, and an estimated 21 million Americans don’t have access to their paper birth certificate. The save act is essentially voter suppression The SAVE Act also puts undo hardship on married women—because if a voter’s last name doesn’t match their birth certificate, they’ll have to jump through extra many hoops, at their own time and expense, to reregister. It’s essentially a poll tax on married women. Voting for this bill is simply unconscionable.
