Reject Senate Deal Without ACA Subsidy Extension
To: Sen. King, Sen. Collins
From: A constituent in Litchfield, ME
November 10
I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent Senate deal to end the government shutdown. While I understand the urgency to reopen the government, I strongly urge you to reject any bill that does not include an extension of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits.
The 40-day government shutdown has caused significant hardship for millions of Americans, including paused SNAP benefits and flight cancellations. However, ending the shutdown at the expense of affordable healthcare for countless citizens is not an acceptable solution. The current deal, which excludes the extension of ACA tax credits, is a betrayal to Americans who rely on these subsidies to access essential health coverage.
Progressive lawmakers have rightly criticized this compromise, recognizing the dire consequences for those who may lose their health insurance. As your constituent, I implore you to stand firm and demand the inclusion of ACA subsidy extensions in any bill to reopen the government.
The health and well-being of American families should not be sacrificed for political expediency. While the deal includes some positive elements, such as protections for federal workers and increased funding for food assistance, these gains are overshadowed by the potential loss of healthcare coverage for many.
I urge you to prioritize the long-term health and financial security of your constituents over short-term political wins. Reject this flawed Senate deal and insist on a resolution that maintains affordable healthcare access through extended ACA subsidies. The American people deserve a government that works for them, not one that jeopardizes their fundamental right to healthcare.
