Pete Hegseth is NOT a leader to be proud of

To: Rep. Strong, Sen. Tuberville, Sen. Britt

From: A constituent in Madison, AL

September 30, 2025

I am writing as a constituent deeply troubled by Pete Hegseth’s recent remarks and behavior during his address to military leaders. As someone entrusted with a platform to communicate with and about America’s servicemembers, Mr. Hegseth’s conduct was not only unprofessional but also an embarrassment to those of us who care about the dignity of our institutions and the respect owed to the Armed Forces. At a time when the military faces both external challenges and internal morale concerns, we deserve voices that uplift, support, and inspire confidence in leadership. Hegseth’s address accomplished the opposite—mocking the seriousness of military service while presenting himself in a manner better suited to partisan grandstanding than responsible commentary. To many of us watching, it reflected poorly not only on him as an individual but also on the broader perception of civilian respect for the chain of command. I urge you and your colleagues to publicly affirm your support for the professionalism and integrity of our military leadership, and to make it clear that figures who use their platforms irresponsibly do not represent our shared values. This country has a proud tradition of honoring those who serve; commentary like Hegseth’s diminishes that honor, and frankly leaves many of us embarrassed on the world stage. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and for your continued service to our district.
