To: Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Sen. Paxton, Rep. Pierson

From: A constituent in Wylie, TX

July 20

The upcoming special session of the Texas Legislature includes numerous priorities set by Governor Greg Abbott, ranging from flood relief efforts to regulating hemp-derived THC products. However, the proposed GOP-led push for Congressional redistricting has drawn significant criticism and opposition. Redrawing district boundaries mid-decade solely for partisan gain undermines the integrity of the democratic process and disenfranchises voters. Furthermore, previous flood disasters like the catastrophic Central Texas floods have highlighted the urgent need for improved flood warning systems, emergency communications, and recovery efforts. The well-being and safety of Texans impacted by natural disasters should take precedence over partisan political maneuvering. As such, I urge you to prioritize flood relief, disaster preparedness, and recovery measures during this special session. Any attempts to divert focus and resources away from these critical issues would constitute a disservice to the people of Texas. The redistricting proposal should be rejected outright, as it serves only to benefit a select few at the expense of fair representation for all Texans.
