January 6
Please uphold the oath you took. Know that you have my support in using the 14th amendment in helping to protect our country and our institutions, to protect and defend our Constitution. Adhere to the self-executing provisions of Section 3. The January 6th Committee’s Report and multiple legal findings found that former President Trump played the leading role in the terrible events of January 6, 2021, by encouraging and inciting the attack on the US Capitol. This puts him in direct violation of the Constitution as he deliberately and willfully obstructed the peaceful transfer of power. Not only did he incite it, but he watched it happen for three hours. Upholding the 14th Amendment is not getting in the way of the peaceful transfer of power. Rather, it is standing up in defense of it. As I said in a recent correspondence with you, we are at a tipping point, both as a nation and the world. He’ll this tipping point become a turning point. Democracy is a messy business. The protection of our Constitutional Republic must always be upheld. I know that things may not go in the direction that I am hoping when you gather in January 6, but please…try. Remember the difference between patriotism and dangerous nationalism. You were duly and fairly elected by we, the people. I am a patriotic American. If we do not uphold the standards and the institutions that protect and govern our nation, or at least relentlessly try to do so, we are lost. This responsibility is upon every citizen, whether they choose to take up the yoke or not. Even more so is it upon you. You are strong and smart. I know you care deeply about the country we both love and its people. Please, do your part to protect it, its Constitution, and its people. We have far more in common than divides us, and I pray that differences will not stand in the way of keeping us safe and upholding the solemn oath you took. Defend the Constitution. Protect us. Uphold the 14th Amendment. There is nothing easy about what is coming, no matter which way things go on January 6. But, fighting for justice and the Constitution is worth it. The freedoms we have today were purchased at a heavy price generation after generation. As Liz Cheney called out the people on a recent X post, we are to be a guardrail of our Constitutional Republic. I would add that a guardrail cannot be made from a single post—we must work together to protect this country we love, warts and all. We must strive with one another to make it better in whatever small or large ways we can. I appreciate your work immensely and hope to see you stand up in defense of the Constitution on January 6th, and in defense of your Constituents. Thank you for all you do. I will keep you all in my heart and prayers through this. Thank you for upholding your oath and defending the peaceful and lawful transfer of power, which includes upholding the 14th Amendment.
