An Open Letter

To: Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Thompson

From: A constituent in Sheffield, PA

December 7

I am writing to express my concern and urge you to block Netflix's proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc., which includes HBO. This $83 billion deal raises significant antitrust concerns, as it would create a media giant with control of nearly half of the streaming market. The merger would lead to reduced competition, higher subscription prices, and fewer choices for consumers. It would also harm American workers, diminish creative opportunities, and concentrate power in the hands of a single entity. The Writers Guild of America, the Directors Guild of America, and other industry unions have voiced strong opposition, citing job losses, wage reductions, and worsening conditions for entertainment workers. Senator Elizabeth Warren has described the deal as an "anti-monopoly nightmare," and Senator Chris Murphy has called it "patently illegal" under U.S. antitrust law. Republican Senator Mike Lee has also expressed concerns, stating that the deal raises "a lot of antitrust red flags" I urge you to carefully scrutinize this merger and take necessary actions to protect consumers, promote competition, and preserve the diversity of the entertainment industry.
