This decision, announced Monday and justified by unspecified national security risks, threatens thousands of jobs and will drive up electricity costs for consumers who are already facing rising energy bills. Offshore wind represents a critical investment in American energy independence and economic growth. The projects now suspended were creating thousands of construction jobs and promised to deliver cheaper electricity to households and businesses. By halting these developments without clear justification, the administration is abandoning workers and families who depend on stable energy costs. The national security rationale provided lacks specificity and transparency. These projects underwent rigorous federal review processes before receiving approval. Suspending them now wastes taxpayer resources already invested and undermines confidence in the permitting system that businesses rely on for long-term planning. Companies that committed billions of dollars to these projects based on federal approvals now face uncertainty that will ripple through supply chains and local economies. Offshore wind offers a path to price stability by diversifying our energy sources and reducing dependence on volatile fossil fuel markets. The technology has proven successful in Europe and is ready to deliver results here. I ask you to publicly oppose this suspension and work with colleagues to restore these federal leases. Support legislation that protects approved renewable energy projects from arbitrary cancellation and ensures that any national security concerns are addressed through transparent processes with clear evidence. American workers and ratepayers deserve better than policy reversals that sacrifice jobs and affordable energy without justification.
