Politicization and Forced Resignation of Federal Workers

To: Gov. Hochul, Assembly Member Magnarelli, Sen. May

From: A constituent in Syracuse, NY

February 3

I am writing to express my deep concern, frustration, and outrage regarding the ongoing efforts to force resignations, dismiss, or pressure career federal government officials and civil servants. The reports of mass buyouts, loyalty tests, and politically motivated firings under the current administration represent a direct attack on the integrity of our federal workforce and threaten the fundamental principles of our democracy. As outlined in multiple reports, these actions appear to be an attempt to replace experienced, nonpartisan public servants with politically loyal appointees. This not only undermines the Merit System Principles that govern federal employment but also violates the rule of law, weakens institutional stability, and sets a dangerous precedent for authoritarian governance. Federal employees dedicate their careers to upholding the Constitution, ensuring national security, providing essential services, and enforcing the laws passed by Congress. They serve the American people—not a single individual or political party. The mass removal of experienced professionals threatens national security, economic stability, and the proper functioning of government agencies. I urge you to: 1. Publicly condemn these actions and reaffirm the importance of an independent, nonpartisan civil service. 2. Introduce or support legislation to protect federal workers from politically motivated firings and loyalty tests. 3. Demand transparency and accountability regarding these forced resignations and dismissals. 4. Investigate any unconstitutional overreach that seeks to replace expertise with political loyalty. This is not a partisan issue—it is a threat to the foundations of our democracy. The U.S. government is designed to function through laws and institutions, not the whims of any one leader or unelected private individuals such as Elon Musk, who, as reports suggest, may be exerting undue influence over federal operations. As your constituent and an American, I expect you and your colleagues to take immediate action to uphold the Constitution and protect the integrity of our civil service
