I am writing to you as a concerned citizen to ask you to please use your power to stop Bill S.5384 which proposes the elimination of the Department of Education. This would have disastrous consequences for many students both current and future. Though our current systems are flawed, throwing them out without a better plan is a dangerous move which students will pay for. Lower income and marginalized communities will bear the bulk of the burden, but even those who only care about self interest should have interest in protecting education as an educated population leads to a stronger economy and nation. If the bill passes, students will lose access to education, barriers for access will raise, disparities will widen, and many students will be left behind. This is a threat to education and a threat to academic freedom. Please stop Bill S.5384. Thank you for your concern.
