Federal employees that served in the military are being disproportionately impacted by the Trump administration's efforts to downsize the federal workforce. Veterans make up 30% of federal workers, yet they appear to be bearing the brunt of recent terminations, including those actively deployed with the National Guard or Reserves. This shows a concerning lack of regard for the sacrifices made by those who served our country. While improving government efficiency is a reasonable goal, it should not come at the expense of treating veterans unfairly or stripping away hard-earned jobs that provide stability and purpose after military service. A more measured approach that considers military status and prioritizes retaining talented veteran employees is needed. Firing those who put their lives on the line to protect our nation is an injustice that demands rectification. Reinstating terminated veterans and implementing safeguards against future indiscriminate cuts should be a priority to uphold our commitment to supporting those who served.
