I am your constituent and I want you to know some of the damage being wrought by H. R. 1, the Big Beautiful Bill.
It removes from Medicare eligibility legal immigrants who have paid into the system. That includes those with temporary protected status holders, refugees, asylum-seekers, survivors of domestic violence, trafficking victims, and people with work visas. Doesn’t seem fair to force people to by insurance and then deny them the right to use it does it?
Nationwide, about 17,000 federally funded community health centers care for 1 in 7 Americans. The upcoming Medicaid cuts that demand work requirements will deny millions health insurance, and reduce income to those 17,000 clinics, putting them at risk. If they start closing, we put public health at risk.
By the way, those work requirements for Medicaid are a cruel sham. Arkansas tried it and gave it up because it was such a failure. Georgia’s program also failed to have any effect other than wasting millions of dollars on complicated software.
I want you to restore Medicare to legal immigrants - all of them. I want you to restore Medicaid so millions don’t lose health insurance and the clinics on which we depend stay open. You could also just pass the enhanced Medicare For All Of Us Acts (HR 3069 of S 1506) and fix those problems and a host of others and save our country hundreds of billions of dollars every year. while providing care to more people.
