Oppose Trump's $10 Billion IRS Lawsuit Settlement

To: Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray, Pres. Trump, Rep. DelBene

From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA

April 17

I need you to oppose any settlement in Donald Trump's $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS over his leaked tax returns. This case represents a sitting president suing his own administration to extract taxpayer money, and it sets a dangerous precedent that cannot stand. Trump is demanding billions because a former IRS contractor leaked 15 years of his tax returns to The New York Times in 2019. The contractor was prosecuted and convicted. Now Trump wants us to pay him for it. Former IRS Commissioner John Koskinen and former National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson filed an amicus brief warning this looks like collusive litigation, where both sides work together to raid the Treasury. No president should profit from suing the government they control. If this settlement goes through, every future president will have incentive to manufacture lawsuits against their own agencies and collect massive payouts on their way out the door. Block this settlement and make clear that public office is not a path to personal enrichment at taxpayer expense.
