I support the Democratic opposition to the Republican budget plan until funding for rural healthcare is restored. I also believe Democrats should fight for a mechanism to ensure that funding appropriated by Congress is not illegally impounded by the Trump Administration. There is no point in negotiating a budget to end the government shutdown without a guarantee that the Administration will actually spend the money as required. Though the government shutdown does come with its own set of negative impacts, this is a chance for Congress to reassert its power of the purse and I support Democrats taking a hardline stance on this issue.
