Upholding a woman's right to make decisions about her own body is a fundamental tenet of reproductive freedom. The fetal personhood bill HB 2062 posed a dangerous threat to this by granting legal rights to fetuses from the moment of fertilization. This unconstitutional overreach would have criminalized abortion in nearly all cases, stripping away healthcare choices for countless Kansans. The veto rightfully rejected this extreme legislation that disregarded both established precedent and the will of voters who enshrined abortion rights in the state constitution last year. Moving forward, we must safeguard reproductive autonomy and trust individuals to make personal healthcare decisions without government overreach. I do not support an override of the governor's veto of HB 2062.
