Take Back Congressional Control of Taxation

To: Rep. DesJarlais, Sen. Hagerty, Sen. Blackburn

From: A constituent in Rockvale, TN

April 24

The Constitution grants Congress the sole authority to levy taxes and tariffs, not the president. President Trump's unilateral imposition of tariffs on imports from numerous countries, including 145% on China and 25% on Mexico and Canada, is a flagrant violation of this founding principle of separation of powers. This reckless trade war has plunged the American economy into chaos without any legislative approval. We urge you to support the lawsuit filed by a dozen states against these unconstitutional tariffs and take decisive action to re-establish Congressional control over taxation powers as mandated by our nation's principles. The economic well-being of millions of Americans depends on restoring the proper balance of trade policy making between the executive and legislative branches.
