I strongly urge you to oppose the SAVE Act and vote against it in every form. Protecting election integrity is important, but this bill would create unnecessary barriers for eligible Americans to register and vote. Millions of citizens do not have easy access to documents such as passports or certified birth certificates, and obtaining them can be costly and time-consuming. Married women and others whose legal names have changed could face additional hurdles if their documents do not match exactly. These burdens would fall hardest on seniors, military families, rural voters, low-income Americans, and people with disabilities. There is already a federal requirement that only U.S. citizens may vote in federal elections, and states have existing processes to verify voter eligibility and investigate fraud. The SAVE Act risks disenfranchising lawful voters without demonstrating that it would meaningfully improve election security. Our democracy is strongest when every eligible citizen can participate without facing unnecessary obstacles. Election security and voter access are not competing values—we can protect both without imposing new documentation requirements that prevent eligible Americans from exercising a fundamental constitutional right. Please oppose the SAVE Act at every opportunity and instead support measures that strengthen both election security and broad, equal access to the ballot box for all eligible citizens.
