We need diverse power systems!

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Carter, Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

February 13

Enough with the denial. Enough with the political theater. Climate change is real, measurable, accelerating, and devastating communities across this country and around the world. No slogan, soundbite, or press conference can rewrite physics. The science is settled, and the consequences are already here. Wildfires are growing more destructive. Hurricanes are intensifying. Heat waves are becoming deadlier. Droughts are crippling agriculture. Insurance markets are destabilizing. Entire regions are being pushed toward crisis. This is not ideology — it is reality. And let us be clear about another dangerous fiction: there is no such thing as “clean coal.” Coal miners are still suffering. Workers are still dying. Black lung disease continues to steal breath, health, and lives from the very people whose labor powered this nation for generations. Calling coal “clean” does not clean the air, does not heal damaged lungs, and does not change the human cost. We owe miners honesty, not marketing. We owe workers protection, not platitudes. We owe Americans leadership grounded in evidence, responsibility, and courage. Burning fossil fuels at current levels is driving climate instability, public health harm, and economic risk. The path forward is not nostalgia — it is transition. Technology has advanced. Energy systems have evolved. Clean power is no longer experimental; it is scalable, affordable, and essential. The power industry must move decisively toward modern, clean energy infrastructure: renewable generation, energy storage, grid modernization, and resilient systems that protect both the economy and public safety. Other nations are accelerating. Markets are shifting. Delay is no longer neutral — it is reckless. This is a defining test of leadership. Act like climate change is real — because it is. Stop defending outdated, harmful energy myths. Protect workers through transition, investment, and retraining. Build the clean energy future that science, health, and economic stability demand. History will remember who chose responsibility and who chose denial. The time for excuses has passed.
