I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to take immediate action regarding the deeply troubling case of Juan Carlos Lopez-Gomez, a United States citizen who remains in detention despite having proven his citizenship in court. It is a fundamental tenet of our democracy that the rights of citizens must be protected without exception. The continued detention of Mr. Lopez-Gomez, after the legal system has affirmed his status, represents a grave violation of constitutional rights and sets a dangerous precedent for civil liberties in this country. I respectfully ask that you investigate this case and demand answers from the appropriate federal agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as to why Mr. Lopez-Gomez has not been released. His continued detention is not only unjust—it undermines the rule of law and the values we hold as a nation. Please do everything within your power to ensure that Mr. Lopez-Gomez is immediately released and that the systemic failures that led to this situation are addressed to prevent it from happening again.
