Law enforcement officers must identify themselves

To: Sen. McCormick, Rep. Thompson, Sen. Fetterman

In big cities and small towns across the country, masked people without any provision that identifies them as law enforcement officers are arresting those suspected of being illegal immigrants. Not only does this create at atmosphere of fear, but it also creates opportunities for militias such as the Proud Boys to pose as officers of the law to harass upstanding members of communities. I urge you to do all you can in Congress to put an end to this. You should be legislating against these practices so that law enforcement officers identify themselves, no mask, with numbered badges and name tags, so that it is abundantly clear that they are indeed empowered to do what they do. We cannot accept that law enforcement officers disguise or hide themselves to avoid their responsibilities in discharging their duties with good conscience and moral rectitude. I urge you to take immediate action against this lawlessness in your chambers of Congress immediately. Law enforcement doesn’t exist outside the law. Are we creating a special branch of law enforcement like the Gestapo? I respectfully ask that you stand up for the values of this democracy and put an end to this abuse.
