Urge Trump to cancel tariffs

To: Rep. Mann, Sen. Moran, Pres. Trump, Sen. Marshall

From: A constituent in Manhattan, KS

April 14

The Trump administration's escalating tariffs on Chinese imports are detrimental to the U.S. economy and global trade. The tariffs, now at a staggering 145%, have led to retaliatory actions from China, fueling an unproductive trade war between the world's two largest economies. This protectionist approach disrupts supply chains, increases costs for businesses and consumers, and risks undermining economic growth. While the temporary exemptions for some electronics products provide momentary relief, the threat of future "semiconductor tariffs" perpetuates uncertainty and makes long-term planning difficult for companies. This unpredictable policy environment hinders investment and innovation in critical sectors like technology. Instead of doubling down on tariffs, the prudent course is to de-escalate tensions through negotiation and diplomacy. Completely canceling the misguided "reciprocal tariffs" policy would remove an impediment to free and fair trade, benefiting all parties involved. A return to open markets and adherence to established international trade rules is essential for fostering a stable, prosperous global economy. Cooler heads must prevail. Canceling the tariffs altogether would be a wise decision that promotes economic cooperation rather than conflict. The livelihoods of American workers and businesses hang in the balance. It is time to end this costly trade war and pursue a more constructive path forward.
