Vote no on SAVE America Act - for the married women
To: Sen. Collins
From: A constituent in Falmouth, ME
February 21
You must not support the SAVE America Act, which will needlessly strip the vote from millions of American citizens. Spare me your excuses that you fell for empty reassurances that there are many ways to prove one’s citizenship and that photo ID is required to fly. It is already illegal for non-citizens to vote and we already have lower voter registration rates than our peer nations.
As you well know, voter fraud is almost nonexistent in America but perhaps you are now in the sway of right wing conspiracy theorists. I don’t know how else to explain this cowardly vote.
If this passes, I would ask you to consider the plight of women especially. Consider an old widow in rural central Maine who does not drive and misplaced her marriage license years ago. She has voted absentee for years but has heard she will have now have to prove her citizenship to vote. She decides it’s too difficult and never votes again. What a shame her elected representative did not stand up for her and millions of other women when she had the chance.
Also, if you felt that Democrats were illegally trying to nationalize voting a few years back, it would be completely hypocritical for you to back this bill. Please join your colleagues Murkowsky and McConnell on the right side of history.
