Stop the Criminalization of Transgender Americans

To: Rep. Walberg, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A verified voter in Stevensville, MI

April 11

Idaho just became the first state to make it a felony for transgender people to use public bathrooms. One week later, Governor Little signed HB 822, forcing schools and healthcare providers to surveil children and report any signs of transgender identity to parents. Other states are watching and preparing to follow. These laws don't protect anyone. They create a surveillance state targeting vulnerable kids and make it nearly impossible for transgender adults to exist in public. A felony for using a bathroom means losing the right to vote, the ability to find work, freedom itself. This is government-mandated erasure of an entire group of people. History shows us where this leads. We've seen governments mark and criminalize people for who they are. We had pink triangles and yellow stars. We know how that story ends. America is better than this, and you have the power to stop it before more states go down this path. Vote against any legislation that criminalizes transgender people for existing in public spaces. Co-sponsor federal protections that prevent states from targeting people based on their identity. This isn't about bathrooms or parental rights. This is about whether America will be a place where all people can live without fear of arrest for simply existing.
