Any new tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico would be detrimental to American businesses and consumers. Trade barriers drive up costs, restrict access to goods, and ultimately hurt economic growth. Rather than unilaterally imposing tariffs, the administration should pursue dialogue and good-faith negotiations to address concerns over immigration and border security through diplomatic channels. Tariffs are a blunt instrument that will inflict self-inflicted economic harm while jeopardizing key partnerships and straining relationships with our closest neighbors and trading allies. A more constructive approach focused on cooperation and mutual understanding would better serve our national interests.
