Strengthen Nuclear Arms Control

To: Sen. Durbin, Sen. Duckworth

From: A verified voter in Batavia, IL

December 5

I am writing to ask that you please support the bicameral resolution that calls for renewed arms control talks between the US and Russia, as well as the US and rising nuclear power China, introduced by Rep. Foster, H. Res. 100 and Sen. Markey, S. Res 61. The NewSTART Nuclear Arms Control Treaty negotiated between the United States and Russia limits the number of warheads mounted to launchers for both countries to 1,500 each. This measure, which has been in place in various forms for decades has reduced the risk of accidental launch significantly while maintaining a line of dialogue between the two most well-armed countries in the world. However, NewSTART will expire in February of 2026, and neither the US or Russia are in negotiations to renew it. I strongly believe this MUST change. With nuclear powers modernizing their arsenals, it is more important than ever to renew dialogue and ensure that a nuclear war, a war that cannot be won, is never fought. Thank you. https://foster.house.gov/media/press-releases/foster-leads-bicameral-effort-strengthen-nuclear-arms-control-regimes
