An Open Letter

To: Sen. Schatz, Sen. Hirono, Rep. Tokuda

From: A constituent in Kapaau, HI

February 12, 2025

I am writing to express my strong opposition to H.R. 1161, a bill that represents a complete waste of congressional time and taxpayer resources. At a time when our country faces pressing issues such as economic instability, unaffordable healthcare, environmental crises, and the erosion of public trust in government, it is deeply frustrating to see Congress prioritize legislation that does nothing to address the real challenges facing everyday Americans. Rather than focusing on performative or redundant measures, I urge you and your colleagues to dedicate your efforts to policies that will make a tangible difference in the lives of your constituents. We need legislation that tackles inflation, supports small businesses, strengthens our infrastructure, and ensures the well-being of our communities—not political distractions that serve no meaningful purpose. As your constituent, I expect my representatives to use their position responsibly, advocating for productive and necessary legislation rather than engaging in symbolic or partisan theatrics. I urge you to oppose H.R. 1161 and redirect your focus toward meaningful governance. Thank you for your time
