Support National Park Land and Employees

To: Rep. Strickland, Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray

From: A constituent in Olympia, WA

February 18, 2025

I am writing to you as a concerned citizen and an advocate for the preservation of our nation's natural treasures. Our national parks, which have long stood as symbols of beauty, heritage, and environmental importance, are facing increasing threats that must be addressed to ensure their protection for generations to come. As a member of Congress, your leadership is essential in preserving these irreplaceable spaces and supporting the dedicated federal employees who safeguard them. National parks are not only critical to our ecosystem and biodiversity, but they also provide vital spaces for education, recreation, and tourism. They contribute significantly to the economy and cultural fabric of our country, enriching the lives of millions of people. However, without strong legislative protection, these parks face the growing risks of underfunding, climate change, and damaging policies. It is essential that Congress pass laws that secure long-term funding for the National Park Service (NPS) to address these challenges. Equally important is the need to support the federal employees who work tirelessly to manage and protect our national parks. Many of these individuals have dedicated their careers to public service, often at great personal sacrifice, to ensure that future generations can experience and appreciate our nation's natural wonders. Unfortunately, some have recently been subjected to unjust layoffs and terminations, which undermine not only their livelihoods but also the well-being of the parks they care for. These dedicated workers should be supported, and efforts should be made to reinstate those who have been wrongfully dismissed. Fair wages, job security, and proper resources are critical to ensuring the success of the National Park Service in its mission. I urge you to advocate for legislation that: 1 Increases funding for the National Park Service to ensure that all parks are adequately maintained and protected. 2 Establishes stronger protections for federal employees working within park services, including fair wages, job security, and workplace safety. 3 Provides financial and professional support to NPS workers who were unfairly terminated, and ensures that efforts are made to reinstate them where possible. 4 Invests in the restoration of parks that are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change and environmental degradation. Protecting our national parks and the people who care for them is a responsibility we all share. I encourage you to use your position in Congress to champion these causes and ensure that future generations can enjoy the rich natural heritage that our parks provide. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response and the actions you will take to protect our national parks and the dedicated federal employees who serve them.
