Congress needs to act now to rein in a war that is crushing American families. Gas prices have jumped to $4.50 a gallon — up from $3.13 just a year ago — and the CPI spiked 3.8 percent year-over-year, with gasoline alone surging 5.4 percent in a single month. This is a direct result of Trump's decision to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, cutting off roughly one-fifth of the world's oil supply.
The president admitted on Tuesday that he does not think about the American financial situation. That is not a slip — it is a policy. A CNN/SSRS poll found 77 percent of Americans blame his policies for the rising cost of living, and 70 percent disapprove of his handling of the economy. He calls that acceptable collateral damage and points to the stock market. My grocery bill and my gas tank tell a different story.
Use every tool available — the War Powers Act, appropriations, sanctions on the conflict itself — to force a diplomatic resolution and end this economic bleeding. Families cannot wait for a promised "golden age" that arrives only after the damage is done.
