Oppose the Transgender Military Service Ban

To: Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin, Rep. Walberg

From: A constituent in Stevensville, MI

March 18

I'm asking you to oppose the Trump administration's ban on transgender Americans serving in the military. This discriminatory policy has no basis in evidence or military readiness. Federal judges have called this ban "soaked with animus" and a "facially unfair, exclusionary policy." The Justice Department has repeatedly failed to provide reasonable evidence supporting it beyond anti-transgender sentiment. Judge Ana Reyes has ordered the government to produce the administrative record and internal materials by April 30, and they still can't justify it. The hypocrisy is staggering. Trans people are told they're too strong to compete in sports, yet too weak to serve their country. Trans Americans have died defending this nation. Many cisgender service members and veterans oppose this ban because they know it weakens our military by excluding qualified, capable people based on prejudice alone. This policy isn't about military readiness. It's about making trans people feel unwelcome in public life and portraying them as "other." That's not what our military or our country should stand for. Stand with transgender service members and oppose this ban.
