Hold a Town Hall, Address Medicaid Cuts
To: Rep. McClain
From: A constituent in Emmett, MI
July 6
As a rural constituent from Emmett, I am gravely concerned about the cuts to Medicaid promised in the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” H.R. 1, that you voted for last week. I am writing to urge you to hold a public town hall to addresses how you plan to protect rural Michiganders from suffering the consequences of these Medicaid cuts.
You have claimed many times that this bill will "strengthen, secure, and sustain" Medicaid. You owe it to your constituents to explain HOW this bill will strengthen Medicaid.
Rural Michigan hospitals depend on Medicaid funding to stay operational and serve their communities. According to the American Hospital Association, the passage of H.R. 1 will cost rural Michigan hospitals approximately 2 BILLION dollars over the next ten years. If hospitals in these rural areas close, your constituents will lose access to life-saving care.
Additionally, according to the University of Michigan School of Public Health, the healthcare sector in rural communities supply as many as 10% of the jobs. Rural Michigan communities not only face the threat of losing critical hospitals, but also the threat of losing a significant portion of their livelihoods.
As a constituent and a voter, I am respectfully asking you to address these concerns in a public town hall meeting. Please do the right thing and address your constituents, or you WILL be voted out in 2026.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
