Do NOT defund the Department of Education!!

To: Sen. Kim, Pres. Trump, Sen. Booker, Rep. Gottheimer

From: A constituent in Haworth, NJ

February 5

Abolishing the Department of Education would be detrimental to students and families across the country. The Department serves over 50 million students in nearly 100,000 public schools and provides critical financial aid to millions of college students. Dismantling it would explode class sizes, cut job training programs, make higher education unaffordable for many, eliminate special education services, and erode civil rights protections in education. Furthermore, the Department helps ensure equal educational opportunities for all children, regardless of background or circumstances. Removing this federal commitment to educational equity would disproportionately harm our most vulnerable student populations. I urge you to reconsider this misguided effort and instead focus on strengthening and improving educational resources and support systems that are vital for our nation's future.
