I am writing to urge you to support impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump for launching unauthorized military action against Iran without congressional approval or clear strategic justification.
On Saturday morning at 4:44 a.m., President Trump announced military strikes against Iran in what he explicitly called a war, warning that Americans could be killed in the operation. This action, termed Operation Epic Fury by the administration, represents a fundamental violation of congressional war powers. Rep. Jim Himes, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, stated that everything he has heard from the administration confirms this is a war of choice with no strategic endgame. He warned that military action in this region almost never ends well for the United States and that conflict with Iran can easily spiral and escalate in ways we cannot anticipate.
The timing and context of this military action raise serious concerns about the president's judgment and motives. Immediately after announcing the strikes, Trump posted election interference accusations against Iran on Truth Social, sharing articles about the 2020 election and continuing his years-long pattern of obsessing over election grievances. His own intelligence agencies indicate his Iran nuclear threat claims are exaggerated, yet he has launched military action that puts American lives at risk.
Numerous experts and Democratic lawmakers have concluded that the president has exceeded his legal authority with no clear objectives or outcome. This represents an impeachable abuse of power. The Constitution grants Congress the sole authority to declare war, and this administration has launched what the president himself calls a war without congressional authorization.
I urge you to immediately support articles of impeachment, work toward conviction in the Senate, and remove President Trump from office before this reckless military action escalates further and costs American lives.
