Vote NO on the KIDS act

To: Sen. Merkley, Rep. Bonamici, Sen. Wyden

From: A constituent in Beaverton, OR

July 10

I am writing to you today to express my concern over the KIDS act. This legislation doesn’t protect kids in any meaningful way. Instead, this legislation aims to mandate mass surveillance by requiring an ID and linking all online activity to an individual. In addition to threatening freedom of information and harming democracy through control of access to lifesaving information, this legislation poses a serious safety risk to abuse victims, anyone with a uterus, the queer community, and anyone who needs to stay anonymous for safety. I urge you to vote NO on the SAVE act and work to implement more meaningful legislation such as regulation of AI and deepfakes as these pose a much greater risk to children’s safety, especially with platforms such as Meta and X allowing users to create deepfakes of children. Hold platforms accountable instead of forcing users to turn over sensitive private data to sites where our entire lives can be stolen or our privacy destroyed through a single data leak.
