The Department of Homeland Security must be investigated for shooting Tucker Collins, an 18-year-old USC student who lost his right eye after a DHS agent fired a crowd control projectile at his head on March 28. Collins was photographing protesters near the Metropolitan detention center when he was struck. He wasn't threatening anyone. He was at the rear of the crowd with a camera, documenting the scene.
This shooting violated a federal injunction issued by a California judge in September that specifically forbids DHS from firing these weapons at journalists' heads. Video footage confirms Collins posed no threat. DHS claims they used minimum force and gave seven warnings, but that doesn't justify shooting a photographer in the face in direct violation of a court order.
DHS, as a whole, must be brought to heel! The citizens of the United States have endured enough. This is part of a pattern. Earlier this year, LAPD blinded another protester at an immigration demonstration. In the fall, LAPD fired at an LA Taco reporter covering No Kings protests. Federal agents are targeting journalists and getting away with it.
Launch a full investigation into DHS's use of force at the March 28 protest. Hold the agent who shot Collins accountable.
