Don’t let them defund public media: protect democracy

To: Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Thompson, Sen. McCormick

From: A verified voter in Lewisburg, PA

April 7

The percentage of the Federal budget allocated for public media is 1/100 of 1% and the government wants to defund it. I believe it must inconvenient for the Trump administration to have any media or news agency that reports on facts that they would rather keep buried. In a related kind of move, the White House is taking away press passes to news agencies that report on facts; see what they have done to Reuters for instance. At the same time, they relish on giving access to hyper partisan “news agencies” that propagate their distorted facts and falsehoods; see the treatment given to Newsmax and One America Network. It is clear that what is being done to our nation has a strong parallel to what totalitarian regimes do. All news must be controlled by the state, approved by the state, disseminated by the state. This is a distressing signal of where we are going. Senators and House Representatives are no longer fighting for the democracy and for our constitution. They are taking the easy way out and just kowtowing to a wannabe tyrant. Do you think independently of the President? Do you prioritize your duty to the Constitution and to the people who elected you? I urge to take a stand against any attempts to defund public media and to silence the press. Show that you care for our constitution. Show that you care for democracy.
