Fix the Texas Voting Maps to reflect the voters - Stop Gerrymandering

To: Rep. Jones, Sen. West

From: A verified voter in Dallas, TX

July 23

I am writing as a concerned constituent from Texas to urge you to take immediate and meaningful action to end gerrymandering in Texas ahead of the 2026 elections. The current district maps do not reflect the political and demographic realities of our state and undermine the foundational principle of representative democracy. According to the Independent Voter Project’s latest data, Texas voters are 37.9% Republicans, 46.5% Democrats, and 15.5% Independents. Yet, the current district maps—drawn by the legislature—do not reflect this balance. Instead, they appear to be engineered to entrench partisan power, dilute the influence of communities of color, and suppress competitive elections. While Texas law requires districts to be contiguous, compact, and population-balanced, the reality is that many districts are drawn with clear partisan intent (https://www.stateregstoday.com/politics/election-and-voting/redistricting-and-gerrymandering-in-texas). This practice not only violates the spirit of fair representation but also erodes public trust in our democratic institutions. Although the Supreme Court has declined to intervene in cases of partisan gerrymandering, that does not absolve our state legislature of its responsibility to ensure fair and equitable representation for all Texans. I urge you to support the creation of an independent redistricting commission or, at the very least, to commit to a transparent, nonpartisan redistricting process that includes robust public input and adheres strictly to the Voting Rights Act. Texas should be a leader in fair elections, not a cautionary tale. The people of Texas deserve better. We deserve a system where voters choose their representatives—not the other way around. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to your response and to seeing meaningful reform before the 2026 election cycle.
