An Open Letter

To: Sen. Tuberville, Sen. Britt, Rep. Palmer

From: A constituent in Birmingham, AL

April 30, 2025

Trump’s First 100 Days. He did say he would be a dictator for the first 100 days, and he certainly has tried. And I thought America was inherently anti-dictator, you know, given the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights (the Founding Fathers you so revere). One would think that someone sworn to uphold the Constitution and chosen by their constituents to represent them and their interests would be anti-dictator, too. Because with a dictator, it’s only a matter of time until congress and a senate are no longer needed. Here are more of the things you have supported Trump doing over the course of his first 100 days: -refusing to fire an advisor who said ‘don’t complain if your social security check doesn’t come’ (because everything’s going to be fine, right. That money will get to the folks who need it—who have already paid into it—especially when offices are closed and workers have been fired. Pro Life!) -refusing to fire advisor who said Social Security is the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time (there are over a million Alabamians on social security, over half of those are over 65 years old. They’ll be fine. Pro life!) -halting the enforcement of the law to prevent bribery of government officials (now this one directly benefits you and your own bank accounts, so I can see why you like this one) -pocketing millions of dollars from promoting his own personal meme coin (because this is why we have a president, so he can use the government to make himself richer. It’s probably in the constitution) -defying orders from federal judges and the Supreme Court (can you imagine if Obama did this? There are checks and balances for a reason) -crashing the stock market (but whatever, it’s only our economy. We’ll be fine, right?) -raising prices on groceries, clothing, cars, literally everything (but it’ll all trickle down eventually. Reagan said it would. It has to happen eventually.) -backing a bill to slash Medicaid (also over a million folks in Alabama who depend on Medicaid and CHIP, mostly kids. But making sure they get healthcare isn’t a Pro Life value) -deporting US citizens, including a four year old with stage 4 cancer (I’m sure this kid has done some very terrible things.) I don’t understand how you don’t read this list in horror. This is terrifying for us. For your constituents. But we know you don’t care.
